Bus and coach market steady in March but still behind 2013

The bus and coach market remains stable; down just 0.2 per cent in March to 1,032 units. The purpose-built sector dropped -28.7 per cent in the month and -23.5 per cent for the year-to-date, while the converted bus market continued to rise, up 22.3 per cent in March to 707 units.

“The bus and coach market held firm in March with 1,032 registrations, a performance on par with 2013 levels,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “Considering the slow start to the year, it was pleasing to see this month’s relative strength. Just two fewer vehicles were registered this March versus last, with the year-to-date falling behind by 68 units. The greatest positivity came from the converted bus sector, which rose 22.3 per cent in the month and 15.9 per cent over the year so far.”
