Italian tyre firm Pirelli has recently scored well in test results carried out by Russian and Swedish publications. The tyres tested were both from the Cinturato family; Russia’s Za Rulem tested the Cinturato P1 while Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet tested the Cinturato P7.

The Za Rulem result is good news for both Pirelli and its new shareholder Rosneft. Russia’s largest motoring magazine tested the Cinturato P1 in size 185/60 R14 against 14 competitors from Nokian, Continental, Hankook, BF Goodrich, GT Radial, Cordiant, Amtel, Toyo, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Nexen, Barum and Contyre, and gave top honours to the Pirelli tyre, concluding that it benefitted from “efficient braking on any type of surface, super-precise controllability, low fuel consumption and a low level of noise.” Za Rulem tested the tyres on a Lada Priora and carried out a comprehensive series of tests to reach its conclusions, including braking on both dry and wet asphalt, lane-changing on dry and wet asphalt, as well as roadholding and hill-climbing. Other factors such as fuel consumption and acoustic comfort were also taken into account. Za Rulem’s road testers summarised the Pirelli Cinturato P1 by saying “anyone who appreciates handling will like them.”

Meanwhile in Sweden, the Cinturato P7 finished runner-up in a recent test conducted by Aftonbladet, a daily newspaper with nearly a million and a half readers. The newspaper, which tested all the market leaders, concluded: “The Pirelli tyre has good traction on both wet and dry roads and resists aquaplaning very well. The steering is very fast and accurate, and it is easy to cope with an evasive manoeuvre.”
