Used tyres form makeshift road in flooded Somerset

With acres of Somerset still underwater following one of the wettest Januarys ever, tyre bales are now being deployed in order to create makeshift roadways. According to a recent BBC news online report, Parts of the area have been flooded throughout January and many residents have to resort to using boats to get around.

In order to address the problem, tyre bales collected by Black Ram Recycling are being used as temporary roads, making thoroughfares once again passable by road. Black Ram reports that all its vehicles are licensed with the Environment Agency and all collections are accompanied with the appropriate Waste Transfer Notes. No indication of how the tyres will be disposed of when the waters recede have yet been given.
