Kumho introduces self-sealing technology

On 2 January, Kumho Tire announced the domestic market launch of its first self-sealing tyre. The company’s ‘K-Seal’ technology has been introduced on the Kumho Majesty Solus range and is available in three sizes – 275/40ZR19 XL 105W, 245/45ZR19 XL 102W and 235/45ZR17 XL 97W. These tyres are capable of self-sealing tread punctures of up to five millimetres in diameter.

At this point in time the self-sealing tyres are sold exclusively in the South Korean market, and Kumho is the first domestic manufacturer to release such a product there. The tyre maker says prices for tyres equipped with K-Seal technology are around 30 per cent higher than for an equivalent standard tyre, and despite being approximately ten per cent heavier than standard tyres, the self-sealing tyres offer the same level of performance and ride comfort.

“Our sealant tyres, the first of their kind on the South Korean market, are the result of cutting-edge technical prowess created by technology powerhouse Kumho tyre,” commented Jung Il-Taik, Senior vice-president in charge of Material Development. “Kumho Tire will continue to develop products for the safety and convenience of our customers.”
