Michelin opens two retreading plants in India

Although a date still hasn’t been set for the inauguration of its large new tyre factory in India’s Tamil Nadu state, on 18 December Michelin inaugurated two new certified Recamic retreading facilities in the state. The commercial vehicle tyre retreading facilities, located in the Chennai and Pudukottai regions, have been established in collaboration with TVS Tread, the retreading arm of TVS Group.

“Due to the recent fluctuations in the raw material prices, vehicle operators need to extract the maximum performance out of every single radial tyre on their fleet, The Times of India reported Thom Clark, managing director of Michelin India Tyre Private Ltd, as saying. “We expect to leverage our partnership with TVS to help grow the retread industry in the country and also expand our footprint in India.”

“With the current synergy with Michelin, who are (the) world’s number one in radial tyres and retreading solutions, TVS Tread will be able to offer quality retread solutions to the growing commercial vehicle customers in Tamil Nadu,” added TVS Tread CEO V N Ramamoorthy.
