Nexen tyre wins Red Dot Design Award 2012

Date: 16th March 2012 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Nexen has been awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2012 for its N9000 tyre. “Our N9000’s competitiveness is proven by its latest win, as the Red Dot Design Award 2012 is widely known as one of the world’s top three global design accolades,” said Lee Hyun Bong, CEO of Nexen Tyre. “This is a great achievement for our design strategy as it comes so close after Nexen’s other wins, the IF Design Award 2010 and Good Design Award 2011.”

The Red Dot Design award dates back to 1955 and is now one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions held by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. There are prize categories for product design, communication design, and design concepts. In 2012, 1,800 large companies and independent designers from 58 countries submitted their entries, totalling 4,515 registrations in the competition’s 19 different categories.

N9000 is developed for sportscar and sporty coupé drivers, and aims to provide maximum traction on both wet and dry roads. Its ‘lightning’ shape pattern design achieves excellent water drainage and grip on wet roads as well as improving cornering stability at high speed. Four straight, wide grooves improve drainage and performance against aquaplaning. Its qualities as a high grip, maximum performance sports tyre have attracted even the interest of amateur racers; however, the pattern also provides comfortable driving in every-day use.

N9000 was developed by what Nexen calls a “maximum high performance tyre” for global markets. The product will be presented at the Red Dot Design Museums in Germany and Singapore.

“I am proud of the fact that Nexen Tyre’s design efforts have been awarded such a prestigious prize: our products are now truly and globally recognized for their unique qualities,” said Lee. “Nexen Tyre will continue to make every effort both on design and quality management, to secure the competitiveness of its products in markets worldwide.”
