Yokohama extends BluEarth concept to 4×4 tyres

Date: 20th February 2012 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Europe is to become the first international market for Yokohama’s new Geolandar SUV range. The 4×4 tyre went on sale in Japan this month and when it arrives here in March the Geolandar SUV will be available in 27 sizes from 245/50R20 102V to 205/70R15 96H. Following its European release, the energy efficiency-themed tyre will be gradually launched in other global markets.

Yokohama markets the Geolandar SUV to drivers of vehicles designed for on-road driving, including urban crossover vehicles and medium- and small-size 4x4s – a vehicle category gaining popularity around the globe. This is the first time the Japanese tyre maker has employed its BluEarth concept of “being human and socially friendly combined with improvements to environmental performance” in a 4×4 tyre. It reports that adopting the compounding and design technologies used in its BluEarth passenger car tyre lines has resulted in a tyre that offers lower fuel consumption – while fully maintaining the utility performance expected from a 4×4 tyre on various road surfaces. In order to denote the tyre’s eco credentials, the BluEarth logo appears on the Geolandar SUV’s sidewall.

The arrival of the new range in Europe expands the Geolandar portfolio here to six models; in addition to the Geolander SUV, Yokohama offers the Geolandar H/T-S for large and on-road 4x4s, the Geolandar A/T-S for all-around use, the off-road Geolandar M/T+, and the Geolandar I/T+ and Geolandar I/T-S, both of which are designed for winter driving.
