Ground broken on Bridgestone US OTR plant

Date: 2nd November 2011 Author: Admin Comments: 0

Groundbreaking for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations' new 1.5 million-square-foot (140,000 square metre) large and ultra-large radial manufacturing facility has taken place at the greenfield site the company selected in Aiken County, South Carolina. The tyre maker also announced further information regarding the start-up team that will take the helm in overseeing construction and hiring efforts. The core team is as follows:

Steve Brooks, chief project officer, will lead the team through the entire construction and start-up process. He was part of the start-up team for the existing passenger and light truck tyre facility built in Aiken County in 1997, and was named plant manager there in 2000. Most recently, Brooks was chief information officer for Bridgestone Americas.

Fran Jones, vice president, administration services division, will oversee human resources, hiring and people development for staff at the new facility. She will also lead the transportation services division during start-up, which includes both receiving and warehousing functions.

Norvel Smith, general manager, will support Brooks in leading and coordinating the overall new plant construction project and the manufacturing systems installation.

Adam Barfoot, operations manager, previously held the role of operations manager at the tyre maker’s LaVergne, Tennessee, commercial tyre facility.

Mitch Mussetter, plant engineer, started with BATO at the Des Moines agricultural tyre facility as an environmental engineer and also has experience working in the existing Aiken County facility both as engineering team leader and as environmental engineer. Among other activities, he will manage the timing of varied installation projects.
