No Russian Cup sponsorship – Bridgestone to “explore opportunities” in Russia

Date: 19th July 2011 Author: Admin Comments: 0

An announcement was made on July 15 that Bridgestone would serve as title sponsor to the Russian Football Union’s (RFU) Russian Cup during the 2011-12 season. However Bridgestone reported on July 19 that on the same day as this first announcement was made, the RFU revealed its selection of a company other than Bridgestone as the event’s title sponsor.

“Our announcement on July 15, 2011 was based on an agreement in good faith between an agent of the RFU and Bridgestone’s advertising agency, and also a July 4, 2011 announcement by the RFU that the official name of the tournament would be ‘Bridgestone-Cup of Russia on football’,” the tyre maker explained in a press statement.

Bridgestone said it will “continue to explore opportunities in Russia to promote and enhance our brand.”
