Therapy for Bruno the tyre chomper

New Zealand’s 3 News has reported the antics of Bruno, a seven-year old mastiff cross with a tyre phobia. Following a mini-rampage in which Bruno disabled three vehicles, including two police cars, by sinking his teeth into their radials, the tyre hating canine ended up in the doghouse – literally. However every dog is said to have its day, and after making an appearance on the evening news Bruno is having his, courtesy of New Zealand’s first pet hotel and day spa.

The morning after his news appearance, Bruno checked out of the animal shelter and into the upmarket Pets in the City establishment, where it is hoped he will finally get the help he needs to overcome his tyre phobia. Pets in the City co-owner Rob Ellis describes Bruno as a big softie whose only problem is with the odd car tyre. “He was just so placid, so nice, we thought this can’t be right so we thought if we can help,” he said. During his stay, Bruno will be pampered with digs that include his own television and he will undergo therapy for his tyre phobia, which is said to stem from being run over as a puppy.
