Pair Arrested in Tire Theft Sting at Pirelli Plant

Date: 28th July 2010 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Two men were arrested for stealing some $100,000 of tyres from the Pirelli Tire North America plant in Rome, Georgia, reports Tire Review. The pair were charged after a county police sting operation caught them taking some 150 tyres out of trucks at the plant site and attempted to sell them to officers.

Three Pirelli plant employees believed to also be involved in the thefts were fired by the tyremaker, but have not been charged yet, according to the Rome News-Tribune.

The tyres were apparently being taken from the plant before they were inventoried, police said, who said they were tipped off by plant security personnel. It is not known how many tyres were stolen by the men or others who may have been involved.
