HiQ Surveys Musical Tastes of the British Motorist

Date: 30th July 2010 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

More than 200 UK motorists have declared Lenny Kravitz’s ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’ the best driving anthem of all time, a HiQ survey has revealed. The fast fit network commissioned a survey to discover which track is the most enjoyable to listen to in the car, and the American rocker made a surprise entry at number one. The top five showed the British public is unafraid of flamboyance, with Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Two Tribes) second and Queen (One Vision) third. More laddish rockers Stereophonics finished fourth (Bartender and the Thief) and the Manic Street Preachers came fifth (‘Design for Life’).

HiQ’s marketing manager Geraldine McGovern said that the survey was the network’s latest way of engaging with motorists, as the brand regularly spoke to them about a number of issues, including customer satisfaction and overall perceptions of the fast fit industry. She said: “We didn’t know what to expect when we put the question to drivers. We had a lot of different suggestions, which we are well used to, as we stock a whole host of different tyres at our forecourts!

“If I said I had heard of all of the entries I would be lying, and while we appreciate the contagious riff and all showmanship in Lenny Kravitz’ iconic track, we thought Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now might have been in with a shout. We also hope that some recognition for Reef’s seminal 90s hit might propel them back into the limelight in the process!”

HiQ can lay no claim to uplifting music keeping motorists alert when making long journeys, but the network does encourage drivers to take a break if tired, and to plan every lengthy journey in advance.

McGovern added: “Participating centres are all offering free vehicle health checks to ensure that cars are in good, safe working order. These eight-point checks are offered free of charge in an attempt to assist motorists wherever possible.”
