Conti Reports US SmartWay Verification for New Drive Tyre

Date: 24th March 2010 Author: Admin Comments: 0

Continental Tire the Americas reports it new low rolling resistance version of its HDL2 DL Eco Plus drive tyre, due for commercial release in June in 275/80R22.5 size, has been added to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of low rolling resistance commercial vehicle tyres.

Tyres verified by the EPA for lower rolling resistance, explains Continental, can provide a reduction in NOx emissions and an estimated fuel savings of three per cent or greater, relative to the “best selling” new tyres for line haul trucks, when used on all five axles on long haul class 8 trucks. According to the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership Website, its projected savings of between 12.5 and 25 billion litres of diesel fuel per year represents a savings of as much as 150 million barrels of oil per year.
