Michelin Reported to be in F1 Talks

Date: 15th February 2010 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Michelin is said to be engaged in talks that may pave the way for its return to Formula One. According to Bloomberg, Michelin managing partner Jean-Dominique Senard said the French manufacturer is holding “formal discussions” with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile, or FIA.

“We might consider returning but there are some very clear conditions,” Senard stated during an interview. These conditions include a change of tyre use regulations to “show the performance they can bring, notably in terms of fuel saving and CO2 reductions.” Current F1 regulations limit teams to 14 sets of tyres over a race weekend, and both “hard” and “soft” tyres need to be used at some point during a race. There are no constraints on rolling resistance or environmental performance.
