The Delivery Company Wins RMA Green Fleet Award

Date: 15th June 2009 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

The Delivery Company has confirmed its credentials as an environmentally-friendly company by scooping the Green Fleet Award presented by the Retread Manufacturers Association (RMA). The Award was presented to Douglas Wright of the Delivery Company by RMA Director David Wilson at the Rubber Industry Dinner held Chesford Grange in Kenilworth on 15 May. The Green Fleet of the Year Award is presented by the RMA to recognise fleets who have been particularly supportive to the retreading industry.

The Delivery Company is a trading division of PaperlinX Services (Europe) Ltd) and has a fleet of 350 vehicles operating throughout the UK delivering paper, board and plastics. As part of an initiative to reduce their carbon footprint, the Delivery Company not only adopted a managed, new and remould, tyre policy, they also introduced a number of other actions aimed at reducing emissions.

PaperlinX’s UK paper merchants consists of three independently branded companies who operated their own transport fleets. Integrating the three existing logistics operations to one, The Delivery Company were able to reduce their fleet and deliver a reduction in waste, costs and ultimately reduced carbon footprint of the group – without effecting the identity and selling power of the paper merchants. This action reportedly reduced emissions by 1800 tonnes per annum

The Delivery Company also introduced it’s first completely carbon-neutral powered vehicle through the acquisition of a Smiths Electric vehicle, this being one of the first battery powered 7.5 tonners operating anywhere in the UK. In addition, the company initiated a major trial with a telematics system, designed to drive down carbon emissions by monitoring fuel usage and driving techniques. This helped improve miles per gallon by targeting careful, economic drivers, with the ultimate aim of reducing vehicle costs.

Dave Alsop, fleet sales director of Vacu-Lug Tyres, who nominated the Delivery Company for the award commented: “We are delighted that the contribution to the environment offered by Delivery Company has been recognised with this accolade. The company has not only been proactive in its support of the retreading industry but their overall environmental policy makes them an outstanding choice as Green Fleet of the Year.”
