CCTV Installed to Catch Phantom Dumper
A council in Worcestershire is employing concealed video cameras to help put an end to the prolific practice of tyre dumping in rural lanes. The Malvern Hills District Council has selected a number of remote locations for the installation of CCTV equipment in response to a recent spate of reported tyre dumpings.
According to council spokesman Gordon Morris, approximately 100 tyres had been found dumped in various locations throughout the district during the previous four weeks. He added that a colleague from neighbouring Wychavon Council had reported similar occurrences in his region.
The tyre dumper’s motives continue to baffle the council. “I don’t know why this is happening now,” said Morris. “There is a charge that people have to pay if they take their tyres to our dumps. Whether there is someone with a large amount of tyres he’s trying to get rid of, I don’t know.”
