Advan Named as Control Tyre for New Series

Date: 10th October 2006 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Yokohama has announced that it will supply an Advan branded control tyre for a new race series that will form part of the support package for the Advan-equipped 2007 FIA World Touring Car Championship. Currently called Formula S2000, the new series will feature identical single-seater chassis powered by a 250bhp four-cylinder engine and running on control Yokohama Advan tyres.

The series will support each of the European rounds of the 2007 WTCC series and features a Tatuus-built chassis, complying with the FIA’s 2008 F3 safety standards. The S2000-specification engine has been developed by Heini Mader in Switzerland, to provide stand-alone drive, as well as forming part of a hybrid drivetrain in the future. The series will also feature Advan tyres, chosen by the developers N.Technology as a result of the success the team has experienced with its Alfa Romeos in the WTCC.

The president of N.Technology, Mauro Sipsz, said: “When building a new series, there are certain key elements that you can’t get wrong. Having worked closely with Yokohama this year in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, they have proved that they have a great product and offer a professional service, making Yokohama my preferred option.”

Yokohama Europe’s marketing manager, Kazuyoshi Sekiguchi said: “One of the key elements that excited us about this series is the fact that the race car has been built not only to the highest FIA safety standards but also to accommodate a hybrid engine. We are thrilled to be involved and look forward to a competitive inaugural season.”

The series has been developed to provide high value for money alongside an opportunity for driver skill and development to come to the fore. N.Technology has already confirmed that all of the 2007 races will be shown live by Eurosport as part of the WTCC TV package.
