Tyre Manufacturers In Global E-Commerce Initiative

Date: 7th December 2000 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Six of the largest companies in the tyre and rubber industry intend to develop a global market-place for purchase and procurement. RubberNetwork.com, an independent company, will be host to a worldwide market, serving Continental, Cooper, Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli and Sumitomo Rubber.

The tyre and rubber manufacturing industry makes annual purchases of raw materials, equipment, machines, goods and services to the tune of approximately 50 billion US $. The aim of the market-place is to make its members’ operations more economical and to achieve substantial savings in their transactions. All participating servers will be protected by “Firewalls” to safeguard the secrecy of individual companies’ business activities.

All the companies in question are convinced that the initiative will lead to significant savings and efficiency improvements to the value creation chain in the area of purchasing and procurement. The provision of tailor-made e-commerce solutions specially for their industry will enable the companies to serve their customers even better. The initiative, it is stressed, has a positive attitude towards potential cooperation with other market-places, especially in the car manufacturing industry.
