UK car manufacturing rises: SMMT
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has released its annual report; 2011 figures show that the UK’s car manufacturing sector rose 5.8 per cent on 2010’s full year. Meanwhile commercial vehicle manufacturing fell by 1.4 per cent to 121,312 in 2011. In December figures, car output rose 1.6 per cent, which CV figures were down 2.7 per cent. Stema wins tyre plant upgrade contract

Michelin Tyre PLC has announced that Michelin Group has agreed to invest up to £50 million in its UK manufacturing sites at Ballymena, Dundee and Stoke-on-Trent over the next six years. Rubber 'issue' causes temporary production halt at Dunlop Aircraft Tyres
Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres halted new and retread tyre production during the week commencing 15 November after identifying a “potentially sub-standard rubber” supply. PyroCouple sensor offers non-contact tyre manufacturing measurements
Infrared temperature sensors from the Calex PyroCouple Series are being used by a major tyre manufacturer. The equipment is being used to detect the presence of hot rubber tyre material as it passes a point on a conveyor. The tyre material is transported in two thin bands on a cooled aluminium conveyor. The temperature of the tyre material is normally 75°C and the cooled conveyor surface temperature is typically 20°C.
