Cooper Tire Europe launches all-new Discoverer S/TMAXX POR

Few names are as synonymous with professional off-road tyres as Cooper, and the American manufacturer has extended its reach in the segment in recent years via its relationship with the Dakar veteran Xavi Foj, made a brand ambassador. The latest tyre to be released by the manufacturer, the Discoverer S/TMAXX POR (Professional Off Road), as a tyre designed for 4×4 driving in extreme conditions, is one that is particularly relevant to Foj. Indeed, the driver commented on its introduction: “the Discoverer S/TMAXX POR is my tyre of choice, the most complete tyre for all uses – from daily tarmac to victory in the toughest terrain in the Dakar Rally.”

The tyre improves upon the previously highly popular Discoverer S/TMAXX with the addition of a new cut and chip-resistant tread compound. Like its predecessor, Cooper has designed the Discoverer S/TMAXX POR to become a tyre of choice for global adventures; it is made to withstand the the toughest terrains from the icy cold of Siberia to the rocky deserts of Africa.

Made in the USA, the new Discoverer S/TMAXX POR also features Cooper’s Armor-Tek3 construction, which provides durability by delivering strength to the sidewall and tread area. The angled ply construction helps to absorb and disperse impact forces that could otherwise cause damage when travelling in harsh off-road conditions.

The large tread area provides superior grip, and the stone ejector ribs, along with the alternating four to five rib tread pattern, helps with the discharge of stones, while the rut guard rib in the upper sidewall area deflects objects. Studs can also be fitted to the tread design for icy conditions.

Cooper states that it has simultaneously taken into account road-handling in its development – an important consideration given the increased demand for adaptability in this segment. It states that the Discoverer S/TMAXX POR provides good ride quality on the road, delivering comfort and confidence from the rough to the smooth.

Foj, who has enjoyed great success on Cooper tyres in the world’s most famous rally endurance event, provided knowledge of the S/TMAXX in extreme competition to aid in the development of the new S/TMAXX POR, reinforcing its ‘Professional Off Road’ designation.

“In my opinion it is the perfect tyre for the Dakar – a race which is all about durability, diversity in driving conditions and continuity. The Discoverer S/TMAXX POR has it all. Based on the input our team has given, Cooper has further enhanced the tyre, and I like to think the extra ‘X’ in ‘MAXX’ stands for Xavi!”

The Discoverer S/TMAXX POR is available in 23 sizes from August via Cooper Tire dealers throughout the EU.

Cooper has also extended its association with the 4×4 sector with a new deal making it the first Official Tyre of Kahn Design. The deal will see Cooper fitted as the tyre of choice on Kahn’s Range Rover and Jeep models. The designer creates personalised specifications to suit everything from the most extreme outdoor adventure terrains to the urban environment in which SUVs have recently thrived as a top-performing car segment.

Kahn Group CEO, Afzal Kahn, said: “The reliability, safety and performance of Cooper tyres is extremely high, just the way we need it for our customers to have the best driving experience we can offer.”

Cooper adds that the firms “share important core values,” adding that the ”new relationship links the Cooper brand’s passion for performance to Kahn’s design and manufacturing expertise for the first time through various campaigns, marketing programmes and promotions.” Kahn believes there is a great deal of synergy between Cooper and Kahn Design: “We have a host of exciting plans to bring our new partnership with Cooper to life and offer fans of both companies the chance to get up close and personal with both brands.

Cooper tyres will be visible on a variety of coach built vehicles, such as the range of Flying Huntsman models, designed by the founder and design director, Afzal Kahn.

In addition, select Chelsea Truck Company vehicles (a subsidiary of Kahn Design) will also be fitted with the acclaimed Cooper Discoverer A/T3 Sport tyres. These will be available to view first hand at international motor shows such as the Geneva Motor Show, the Monaco International Motor Show and a variety of high profile UK-based shows.
