Pelmar Engineering: Michelin X Multi tyres are 22% better

Following the news that Michelin has released a couple of new X Multi tyres, one engineering consultancy wrote into Tyres & Accessories to support claims made by the French tyre manufacturer. As part of the launch, Michelin claimed that its new tyres increased mileage by 15 to 20 per cent. According to Pelmar Engineering, the tyres actually exceeded these improvements when the Israel-based firm ran its own tests.

Introducing Pelmar’s findings, executive chairman Jacob Peled wrote: “…in a recent tyre test that we were responsible for, the results of Michelin X Multi D (drive) and Michelin X Multi F (steer) were increased mileage of 22 per cent and 23 per cent respectively.”

Continuing his analysis, Peled suggested that this quality drive was a conscious decision to move in the opposite direction to firms competing on price: “I read with interest the article of 31 May [“New generation of Michelin truck tyres to increase mileage ‘by 15 – 20 per cent”].

“It is interesting and indicates a very important trend which Western tyre manufacturers should adopt. It is not possible to compete with Chinese manufacturers on price, but it is possible and feasible to compete in quality and service. I know that other major tyre companies are adopting the same approach but Michelin as usual is ahead.”
