‘Our ambition is to become an integrated automotive solution provider’ – European launch for Goodyear Proactive Solutions
According to André Weisz, Goodyear Proactive Solutions is “a culmination of Goodyear’s experience and strength”
Santa Claus may have cornered the market on knowing if you’ve been naughty or nice, but Goodyear is confident it can predict the problems a commercial vehicle fleet will face in future. The company yesterday shared how it can identify, and also offer solutions to, these problems at the launch of a new pan-European business.
The new business is called Goodyear Proactive Solutions, and is headed by André Weisz, who joined the company from Daimler FleetBoard GmbH in July. Introducing the new business, the recently-appointed general manager of Goodyear Proactive Solutions described it as “a culmination of Goodyear’s experience and strength” and a further step away from being ‘just’ a manufacturer: “Our ambition is to become an integrated automotive solution provider, partnering with customers. We are not just offering telematics or data – we are offering solutions.”
Goodyear Proactive Solutions offers a suite of vehicle-to-fleet operations management solutions that utilise advanced telematics and predictive analytics technology. Using intelligent computer algorithms, a wealth of data derived from Goodyear’s extensive commercial tyre and service business, and clear, accurate reporting, the solutions allow fleet operators to precisely identify and resolve tyre-related and potential safety issues before they happen. The solution enables fleets to monitor their vehicles and tyres in real time, affording them a competitive advantage whilst helping to increase their profitability and operate more sustainably in a rapidly changing environment.
Michel Rzonzef, vice-president of the Commercial business for Goodyear’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region, was also on hand to welcome the new business’s launch. “We are witnessing a transformational shift that is reshaping commercial trucking,” he commented. “In a digital economy, consumers and businesses expect deliveries to be faster, cheaper and more flexible, and in response the industry is becoming increasingly connected and automated. Goodyear Proactive Solutions offers fleet managers a one-stop, user-friendly solution to help reduce their total cost of operations and improve the uptime, efficiency and sustainability of their fleets.”
Goodyear has spent the last two years designing and developing its fleet management solutions in partnership with commercial fleet operators, and it claims these pilot partners have reduced tyre-related breakdowns by up to 75 per cent and reduced monthly fuel bills by up to €300 per vehicle per month, given a diesel price of circa €1 per litre. Tyre maintenance costs for the fleets is said to have fallen by up to 70 per cent, while their carbon footprint has improved due to fuel consumption decreasing by around ten per cent.
André Weisz states that in order to integrate with customers and support them in their day-to-day business, Goodyear Proactive Solutions took the huge base of vehicles that Goodyear already manages, and identified their requirements and how these can be best met. “The result was that we identified two major families of solutions – Proactive Tyre, a solution that optimises everything related to the tyre, and as a result the reliability of road operations. The second solution is more focused on the customer’s daily operations and business, with a goal of reducing costs and increasing road safety. We call this Proactive Fleet.”
Proactive Tyre offers a broad range of services, including tyre pressure, temperature and tread depth monitoring. These connected and fully automated solutions enable fleets to maximise tyre performance and schedule proactive maintenance. The Proactive Fleet solution includes two options, Driver Behaviour and Track & Trace, which help fleets to reduce fuel consumption and journey times while increasing safety.
“Goodyear Proactive Solutions enhances our role as a key commercial fleet partner by combining the latest digital technologies and data services with our existing fleet support systems and industry-leading TruckForce service network, which serve the largest pool of commercial vehicles in Europe (more than 350,000 registered vehicles) through over 2,000 service partners across the continent,” Weisz adds. “Our innovative solutions are fully compatible with all commercial truck tyres, allowing every fleet owner the opportunity to benefit from these new connected fleet management solutions.”
Europe is the first region to benefit from these new solutions, however Goodyear anticipates that similar packages will be introduced in other markets at a later date. Goodyear Proactive Solutions is now available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Further additions to the portfolio of applications are in development, and are expected to be introduced in 2017.
