Tyre for smaller cars features Cologne skyline on sidewall

The new GT Radial FE1 City tyre for A-C segment urban cars is now available throughout Europe following its launch on Giti Tire’s stand at Reifen 2016. The tyre currently comes in 16 sizes, with rims from 13-16”, section widths from 145 to 195 and series sizes 55 to 80. The tyre was designed by the company’s R&D Centre in Hannover, Germany and features a silhouette of the city of Cologne to mark its European R&D credentials.

Giti has positioned the product as an “urban tyre” for long life and confident wet and dry handling. With the tyre, Giti targets front wheel drive, A-C segment vehicles such as the Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Fox and Polo.

It features a stronger, more rugged carcass and tread design to protect against typical forms of city driving damage, sustained from potholes, kerbs and speed bumps. Its new compound is designed to improve mileage potential with lighter manoeuvring, better braking and faster acceleration at low to moderate speeds.

Brian McDermott, sales and marketing director – Europe for passenger car and light truck (PCR), Giti Tire said: “We would class the GT Radial FE1 City as our first proper European urban tyre, in that it replaces the more generic all-round Champiro VP1 with a specific product for city living and shorter travelling distances.

“Coupled with the popular FE1, our all-round premium passenger car tyre aimed at performance C and D cars with rim sizes from 15-17”, we have created two products which cover the specific requirements of over 95% of their target automotive markets and end-user needs.”

GT Radial is distributed throughout the UK by Micheldever Tyre Services, which has supply rights for passenger car, 4×4 and light truck tyres. The existing GT Radial FE1 pattern, to which the FE1 City is related, became the fastest selling European pattern in Giti Tire’s history, topping half a million in 2016.
