Pirelli opens new company libraries

Pirelli reports that it now runs three company libraries – one for each of its locations in Italy. New libraries have been opened at the Pirelli headquarters in the Bicocca area of Milan and at its plant in Bollate – these join an existing library at Pirelli’s site in Settimo Torinese.

The inauguration of the Pirelli libraries is part of #ioleggoperché 2016, the campaign promoting reading organised by the Associazione Italiana Editori (AIE), for which Pirelli is the main partner and this year focusing on the development of activities to promote and create company and school libraries. Pirelli executive vice-chairman and chief executive officer Marco Tronchetti Provera presided over a ribbon cutting ceremony at Pirelli’s headquarters yesterday.

The libraries in Milan and Bollate initially stock some 3,500 volumes, and this number will more than double by the time the inventory is complete. Pirelli’s own employees chose the first 1,000 titles to grace the new libraries’ shelves. These were then joined by volumes donated by the company RSU, those acquired by the company and books chosen by the Fondazione Pirelli, custodian of the Pirelli archive.
