Fleet tests with Bridgestone’s Tirematics now under way

Tirematics uses sensors to measure tyre air pressure and temperature

Bridgestone has begun verification tests of its Tirematics fleet solution. In partnership with its Bridgestone do Brasil subsidiary and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Rio de Janeiro, the tyre maker is evaluating the effectiveness of Tirematics in preventing unexpected operational problems or major delays due to tyre failures.

Tirematics is an IT system that uses sensors to measure air pressure and temperature within commercial vehicle tyres. The system uses a cellular network to remotely monitor and transmit real-time information about the tyres as well as vehicle location. Tyre information can be interpreted with a high degree of accuracy while on the road and in real-time. When abnormal air pressure or temperature is detected, the Tirematics system will inform the service manager and the driver via an alert.

The remote monitoring of tyre information removes the necessity of checking tyre pressure manually, and Bridgestone states that real-time checking leads to longer tyre service life and lower operating costs.
