Sidelined: The Nokian Line SUV is blacked out from the SUV Magazin results
The publication ‘SUV Magazin’ has printed a test of size 215/65 R16H/V in its current 2/2016 issue. An Audi Q3 quattro was used to evaluate five brands of tyre; a sixth tyre – the Nokian Line SUV – was removed from the ranking post-testing as a “precaution” after details of Nokian Tyres’ test manipulation activities came to light. Furthermore, the German SUV magazine has stripped Nokian of its victory in the winter tyre test published in issue 6/2015 last year. First place in that test has now goes to the Pirelli Scorpion Winter.
Upon sharing its decision to leave the Nokian tyre out of the current test and to dethrone it in the winter test, SUV Magazin writes “we (and the entire industry) must find ways to exclude manipulated test tyres in future.” The publication states that it and sister magazine Off Road are “working on a realisable solution,” however until this has been found they will “refrain from further comparative tyre tests.”
Victory in the summer tyre test went, with or without the Nokian tyre, to the Continental CrossContact UHP, which gained the same ‘highly recommended’ rating that the second-placed (prior to its elimination) Nokian Line SUV would have achieved. Three tyres – the Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV, Pirelli Scorpion Verde and Hankook Dynapro HP2 – were given a rating of ‘recommended’. The fifth-placed tyre of the five, the Star Performer SUV-1, was deemed ‘satisfactory.’
