Michelin boosting winter tyre production in Canada

A temporary production increase will soon be implemented at a Michelin plant in Canada in order to meet high North American market demand for winter tyres. According to Jeff MacLean, president of Michelin North America (Canada), the tyre maker will boost production of the Michelin X-ICE Xi2 at its Pictou County facility; the additional output will be sold both in Canada and in export markets.

“Simply put, our customers want more of our tyres for our challenging winters,” comments MacLean. Michelin intends to keep production at a higher level for a two-year period, and although no new tyre manufacturing equipment or capital investment is required to reach its production goals, the plant will employ 70 to 90 extra workers during this time. The additional jobs will be filled by current Pictou County plant employees, returning retirees and contractors. The first of these workers will start in their positions in June.
