Pirelli continues Ducati Multistrada supply with Scorpion Trail II

Pirelli is supplying the Scorpion Trail II to the Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1200 S and Multistrada 1200 S D|air.

The Ducati Multistrada tyre supply baton has been handed to Pirelli’s Scorpion Trail II – the direct successor to the Scorpion Trail is the first tyre to be named as original equipment for the new Multistrada 1200. The Pirelli tyre will be fitted in sizes 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 190/55 ZR17 (rear) to the Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1200 S and Multistrada 1200 S D|air.

Pirelli says it has worked closely with Ducati since the Multistrada project’s inception, and the first version of the Multistrada released in 2003 was equipped with Pirelli’s Scorpion Sync in in 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 sizes. The new model in 2010 adopted the Scorpion Trail. Now the Scorpion Trail II picks up where its predecessor left off.

For the aftermarket, the Scorpion Trail II is available in six 17 to 21-inch front wheel and seven rear wheel (all 17-inch) sizes. Aimed at riders of large capacity adventure machines, this new tyre was developed to offer a combination of long haul mileage combined and excellent road holding performance, and can also cope with unpaved tracks when necessary. Pirelli notes that the Scorpion Trail II shares its DNA with the 2013 Motorcycle News tyre of the year, the Pirelli Angel GT.

The sports adventure – or street endure, as it is known in some regions – market includes motorcycles such as the Ducati Multistrada, Aprilia Caponord, BMW R 1200 GS, Triumph Tiger, KTM 1190 Adventure, Honda Crosstourer, Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere, Kawasaki Versys and Suzuki V-Strom. “With a bi-compound structure, the Scorpion Trail II has a wider central section offering high mileage without compromising cornering performance,” reports Pirelli. “The tread pattern has an aggressive off road look, yet the layout is aimed at good water dispersal, stability and wear rate.”
