Group C racers to roll on Avon tyres

Avon Tyres will supply slick and wet tyres to classic race cars from the ‘80s and ‘90s under a three-year deal it has signed with Group C Racing. Commenting on the new partnership, Group C Racing’s race series manager, Zoe Copas, said: “It is great for us to be involved with Avon. They have a long history with GPC and won several world championships in GPC2 in the 1980s. The enthusiasm of Avon for GPC is obvious in the effort they have put into producing a range of tyres and a trackside service ready for our 2015 race series.”

Paul Coates, Avon Tyres motorsport general manager, is equally enthusiastic: “We’re very pleased to be involved with Group C again. We have been developing suitable radial tyres for C1 cars to complement our existing range of cross-ply C2 tyres for a while, culminating in our success at the recent Daytona historic event where Avon-shod Porsche 962 and Audi R8 cars both won their respective races against established opposition.”

The first Group C race of 2015 takes place in Barcelona on 17-18 April, followed by rounds at Spa, Monza, Silverstone, Zandvoort and Paul Ricard.

All sales and service of the dedicated Group C tyres will be available exclusively from Avon historic tyre specialists, BMTR.
